Announcing: Edge Esmeralda 2024 Hackathon
Join us for our hackathon program for builders — a month of innovation, collaboration, and open-source building at Edge Esmeralda, focused on Tools for Flourishing!
Update: this post was updated on June 4th to reflect a slightly different hackathon structure. Nothing meaningful has changed, but the hackathon is now a cohesive event throughout the entire month. There is still a midway hack and demo on the weekend of June 15th-16th, and a final demo day on June 29th!
TLDR
We have a builders program at our month-long event, Edge Esmeralda, with a focus on Tools for Human Flourishing.
Edge Esmeralda attendees can build throughout the entire month, with two main events focused weekends:
Drafts&Demos (Fri June 14 — Sun June 16): a weekend to create a proof of concept through focused coworking sessions (Socratica inspired!), a demo day on Sunday, and office hours with mentors to brainstorm ideas. Click here to RSVP for Drafts&Demos (longterm Edge Esmeralda attendees don’t need to RSVP)
Hackathon (Thurs June 27 — Sat June 29): a judged hackathon bringing together those who have spent the month at Edge Esmeralda, builders from Drafts&Demos, and makers who want to join for one weekend only. There will be a demo day on Saturday, June 29th, with judges including Ivan Zhao (Founder & CEO, Notion). Click here to RSVP to this hackathon (longterm Edge Esmeralda attendees don’t need to RSVP)
For weekend visitors: this is happening in Healdsburg, one hour away from San Francisco. Once you sign up, you will be able to organize carpooling and accommodation with our community.
If you intend to join only for the Drafts&Demos or the main hackathon, RSVP on the respective Luma event linked above. If you want to come for longer (before or after the event), apply here, and answer yes to the question, “Do you want to participate in Drafts&Demos?” and/ or “Do you want to participate in the hackathon?”.
For those coming, join the Telegram group here.
At Edge Esmeralda this June, we will invite builders to come and develop tools for flourishing. Builders can tap into our tracks (see below) or choose to build in their own focus area.
Throughout the month, builders will have access to expert programming on a variety of topics, providing inspiration and learning opportunities. During the weeks, they’ll have space to focus and attend community sessions. On weekends, they can intensify project work through special events or participate in unconferences to inspire their efforts for the week ahead.
We’ll have two main focused weekends:
Drafts&Demos (June 14-16)
This weekend session is a Socratica-inspired event, where we’ll gather makers, artists, engineers, and all the others for focused co-working sessions. It will be hosted over the whole weekend, with a demo day and office hours with mentors on Sunday.
During the weekend, we’ll provide a space to hack, and have mentors who you can do office hours with. And on Sunday, you’ll get to present what you’ve worked on during the demo. It’s the perfect preparation for the hackathon coming up two weeks after that.
For weekend visitors of Drafts&Demos
Join us from Fri June 14th — Sun June 16th to attend. And if you like it, you can stay longer or come back!
Welcome to hack individually or to sign up your team. You can apply until June 12th, 11:59pm PT, here.
Hackathon (June 27-29)
The main hackathon will happen on Thurs June 27th — Sat June 29th. We have some amazing judges lined up, including:
Ivan Zhao (founder & CEO of Notion),
Nick White (COO of Celestia),
Yasmin Razavi (Anthropic board member),
Zack Radisic (engineer @ Bun.sh)

Regarding accommodation, we have partnered with hotels in the city and can help you find a shared room (hacker house style) for cheap. Bring your sleeping bag!
